Privacy Policy
Claryzo Languages
Effective Date: March 2026
At Claryzo, we value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Claryzo Languages mobile application ("the App"). Claryzo Languages is a pronunciation and language learning app that uses on-device machine learning to help you improve your speaking skills.
Information We Collect
Personal Information You Provide
- Name (optional): If you choose to set a display name in your profile.
- Language preferences: Your selected mother tongue, target learning language, preferred accent (American/British/Indian), and difficulty level.
Audio Data
- Voice recordings: When you use the pronunciation practice features, the App records your voice through your device's microphone. All audio processing happens entirely on your device using on-device speech recognition (Whisper) and pronunciation scoring models. Your voice recordings are never uploaded to any server.
Learning Progress Data
- Course progress: Lessons completed, XP earned, scores, streak data, and difficulty settings. This data is stored locally on your device.
- Practice history: Session records, phoneme scores, and phrase attempt records stored locally using SwiftData.
Automatically Collected Information
- Device information: Device model, operating system version, and app version for compatibility and crash reporting purposes.
On-Device Processing
Claryzo Languages is designed with a privacy-first architecture. The following features run entirely on your device with no data sent to external servers:
- Speech-to-Text (STT): Powered by an on-device Whisper model that converts your speech to text locally.
- Text-to-Speech (TTS): Reference audio is generated on-device using Piper TTS models.
- Pronunciation Scoring: Uses on-device Wav2Vec2 CoreML models for acoustic analysis and phoneme-level scoring.
- AI Conversations: The conversational AI tutor runs on-device using a Gemma language model via Metal GPU acceleration. Your conversations are never sent to any cloud service.
- ML Model Downloads: Machine learning models (Whisper, Piper, Wav2Vec2, Gemma) are downloaded once to your device and run locally thereafter. Downloads are from our content delivery servers and contain no personal data.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and personalise your language learning experience.
- To track your learning progress, streaks, and achievements locally on your device.
- To adapt lesson difficulty based on your selected preferences.
- To generate pronunciation feedback and scoring.
- To provide text-to-speech reference audio for practice.
- To improve the App's performance and fix bugs through anonymised crash reports.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored locally on your device using:
- SwiftData: For practice history, user profiles, and session records.
- UserDefaults: For course progress, preferences, and settings.
- Application Support directory: For cached course data and downloaded ML models.
We do not operate user accounts or cloud databases for this App. Your learning data stays on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).
Microphone Usage
The App requires microphone access to enable pronunciation practice features. Specifically:
- The microphone is only activated when you explicitly tap the record button to practice speaking.
- Audio is processed in real-time on your device and is not stored permanently.
- Audio samples are held temporarily in memory during a practice session and discarded immediately after processing.
- No audio data is ever transmitted to external servers.
You can revoke microphone access at any time through your device's Settings, though this will disable pronunciation practice features.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Apple App Store: For app distribution and updates. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Content Delivery Network: For downloading ML models on first launch. Only the model files are downloaded; no personal data is sent.
- Meta (Facebook) SDK: Used to measure advertising effectiveness and app install attribution. When you grant tracking permission (see Section 7 below), the SDK may collect your device identifier (IDFA) and app event data, which is shared with Meta for advertising analytics. If you decline tracking, no data is shared with Meta. You can learn more about Meta's data practices in Meta's Privacy Policy.
Apart from the Meta SDK (which only operates with your explicit consent), the App does not use any other analytics SDKs or social media trackers. All language learning features, including speech recognition, pronunciation scoring, and AI conversations, run entirely on your device.
App Tracking Transparency
When you first open the App after completing onboarding, you will see Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt asking for permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites.
- If you allow tracking: Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) and basic app events (such as app installs) will be shared with Meta to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. No personal learning data, audio recordings, or practice history is ever shared.
- If you decline tracking: No data is shared with Meta. The Meta SDK remains inactive, and your experience with the App is not affected in any way.
You can change your tracking preference at any time by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking on your device.
Children's Privacy
Claryzo Languages does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require account creation and stores all data locally on the device. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Data Deletion
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it:
- Reset progress: Use the "Reset Onboarding" option in the Profile tab to reset your preferences.
- Delete all data: Uninstalling the App will permanently remove all stored data, including your learning progress, practice history, preferences, and downloaded ML models.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
- The right to access your personal data (all data is accessible on your device).
- The right to delete your personal data (by uninstalling the App).
- The right to restrict or object to data processing.
- The right to data portability.
Since the App operates with on-device processing and no cloud storage, most of these rights are inherently satisfied by the App's design.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
